What Do These Things Have in Common?
Invariably, when you are asked to fill out a form about your photography, you are asked to categorize your work. I.e., sports, landscape, architecture, portraits? Lately, especially from folks like Phase/Capture One, I've seen combos like Landscape/Cityscape. But it's not that simple, is it?
I cannot imagine what it would be like to try to box myself into such a rigid classification. Consider the title image of Generals highway through Sequoia National Park in early morning light In so many ways, it is clearly related to this image from Bridalveil Creek:

Actually, that one is pretty easy, right? But what about this one from Mono Lake:

To me, these are all the same image in my heart. They are each a story about the entry of light through a door, across a threshhold.
