I had planned this visit to Mono Lake in January of '19, when TPE advised there was a chance of good clouds and illumination at sunset. But I got away from the house late, and snow and traffic(!) slowed me down a bit, especially after Bridgeport. As I climbed the last ascent before reaching the descent into Mono Basin, I watched the light start to fade, swearing under my breath—okay, probably yelling out loud—at the slowpokes who were probably driving, appropriately, a little more cautiously. Going through Lee Vining at 25mph was excruciating, but eventually, I made my way to the South Tufa day use area, and hustled over to one of the spots I prefer for sunset. I had just enough time to get the Phase set up on a tripod. The first shot was a guesstimate-blowout. As I watched the light fade , the colors dull, I was bale to get one more frame. This was it.
