Hurricane Maria hit the island of Dominica head-on in late 2017. Maria was a Category 5 storm and probably could have been a 6 if there was such a rating. The storm dwarfed the island, killing many and devastating its natural landscape and human infrastructure. We had planned to visit in February 2018, but had to reschedule a full year later. It was a return for Greg, Mary’s first time. We found a beautiful place and people getting back on their feet and rebuilding life with an optimism that many of us in the first world might find, should find, inspiring. We visited Toucari one day, having lunch at the Keepin’ It Real, and hanging out at the beach, even chatting with the Prime Minister’s party who happened to be lunching there at the same time. The bay was calm and the sun set quietly. This prosaic dock and the men working on it, caught Greg’s eye. He ventured out on the loose planks for sunset.
