Lux Armarium

We were surprised that the Redwoods were as relatively uncrowded as they were this past July. Granted, if you wanted a permit to some place like Fern Canyon or Tall Trees Grove, you were probably out of luck. But in Del Norte, Humboldt, Founders, Rockefeller,,and Jedediah Smith, parking was never impossible, and trails were often empty for more than a few minutes at a time. This was even true in Stout Grove, which is very popular for its easy trails and large number of huge redwoods. No complaints.

Today, it was especially magical as morning mist remained high up in the trees, but sunlight came pouring in through and beneath it, setting trunks and sword ferns aglow. It was the natural equivalent of a refrigerator door being opened in the dim early hours of morning. And so, we named this piece Lux Armarium, Latin for "Cabinet of Light."
