Finding Beauty

I’ve traveled enough, and lived in enough places, to know that there is beauty to be found everywhere, albeit some places requiring more effort than others. Here in Iceland, there is certainly the mundane and ordinary, but this small country is blessed with an outsized supply of spectacular beauty. In winter, of course, there can be a sense of remote desolation, very much like some setting from an Ingmar Bergman movie. Four hours of daylight will do that to a place, if not its people. But along with those short days come late/early and lengthy sun transits, a landscape artist’s dream combination. It’s been rainy for the last 36 hours, but that should improve in the next day or two, possibly bringing partly cloudy days and colder clear nights. But in the meantime, there is no lack of serenity surrounding us.
